The Brewery Tap has stood in the middle of the High Street in Ware since the 15th century. Originally a coaching inn, the bar has recently been transformed into a haven for pie, ale and cider lovers! The pub used to have its own brewery, that’s now gone but we continue the brewing tradition by serving the best cask ales from local brewers, we even have our very own ‘Warehouse Ale’ – brewed locally to our own recipe. Come and try a pint and a pie in our enclosed and heated courtyard or cellar bar.
Great Ale, Cider & More
Brewing is at the heart of the Brewery Tap, as the name suggests! Now we serve locally brewed cask ales such as Oakham Ales in Peterborough, Buntingford Brewery in Royston and the Three Brewers in St Albans, to name just a few. We also serve craft beers, a range of ciders, a comprehensive selection of wines, spirits and plenty of gin!
We also serve toasted sandwiches for £3.50 in our bar.
History
The Brewery Tap is a Grade II listed building and over the years has had many alterations, including having a shopfront added in the 19th century. The earliest pub was recorded on the site in 1509 as The Horseshoe Inn and then became the Golden Cross Inn. The pub was the ‘Tap’ for the High Street Brewery between 1866 and 1878 before the brewery closed and the pub was then associated with the nearby Star Brewery, becoming the Star Brewery Tap. We’re now the good old Brewery Tap, but the idea of the coaching inn remains as we now have several double rooms upstairs available for accommodation.
